★ Project 6 - INTEGRATED PROJECT: DESIGN & BUILD ‘AN AMPHITHEATRE STAGE’

Project 6 is a very big big big project for us those newbies without any experiences about designing a very large object (or actually you can call it as small structure building) and even we had to build it in about 1m height and 1m long. All of us who are from different courses re-divided into 12 groups and there were studiomaster/studiomasters for each group. There were 16 students in each group, either from different races or courses. This was not easy to co-operate with lots of teammates in one project, because conflicts will be happened more in a group. But I realized that we had to, because there were more waiting for us in the future, so we had to learn.

Each group was requested to design an emphitheatre stage, this project includes the aspects of site analysis, architectural and interior design, structure and material selection, simple costing, project management, and construction technique of the scale size building (model). The actual size of this performance stage is 4x6x5 in meter. The selected amphitheatre stage was planned to build behind of our studio blocks. Timber was only our main structure of the stage.

The very first thing to do was having a first meeting with our teammates and studiomasters before starting everything. Leader was very important in a project to lead group mates to confirm that everything goes well. So, Amalin was our leader for this project after discussion. Then, we just started the progress of this project.

We went for site-visiting. It's a space where planted with grasses.

From there, we can see Penang Bridge and 'Penang Twin Tower'. Nice view.

We also made a project scheduling to decide what members have to do.

After that, design teammates started designing and taking out ideas. It’s great to see our members were so active in giving suggestions, and they were very creative. After discussion, decision made, Jun Le’s design was the final choice. Our stage was with green roof, to support vegetation. Lecturers’ opinions were so important to us that we asked them to get more suggestions. Their opinions were really useful and helped a lot than we expected. After making corrections, our design officially came out.

It’s time to draw our presentation drawings.

After we suffered and stayed up in the studio for nights, our drawings finally came out. All must thank our Jun Le and Carmen for their sacrifices too much, also other teammates.

After passing up the presentation drawings, we had to build our model for our design. Boys bought the woods, and put a lot of effort on cutting the woods and building the structure of the model. Of course, we did help them, though we are girls, but things boys are able to do, we girls either definitely, like cutting the woods, fixing the nails into block of woods, painting the stage and others.

A day before submission date, we finally built our stage up, our stage became a real one, not just in our mind, It's so awesome!

Comfortable green roof made everyone feeling like laying and even sleeping on it. Haha.

Backstage

Feeling like laying on our green roof? Haha.

From this project, we knew personal characteristics of someone clearly, whether he or she is good in characteristics. But at least I know, my leader is a responsible and good leader, she suffered so much pressure we know. Besides that, we also knew more people because this project made us who even don't know each other be together. The most amazing part is our relationship got improved.
